CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
The Origins of Syriac Christianity
November 24, 2001
The Canadian Society for Syriac Studies
Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations
4 Bancroft Avenue
Toronto, Ontario M5S 1C1
[1] The Canadian Society for Syriac Studies at the University of Toronto is organizing a one-day Symposium on the Origins of Syriac Christianity. The Symposium aims at exploring the history of Syriac Christianity during the first four centuries of the current era. Syriac Christianity is deeply rooted in the same soil in which the Bible sprung, expressing itself in a biblical language, Aramaic. Also Syriac Christians before AD 400 were free of Western cultural influences and, therefore, they can be considered as the true representatives of Semitic Christianity, with a way of thinking typically Semitic.
