Abstract:

This paper presents a tool whose purpose is to aid in the compilation of encyclopaedia-type works. The system presented accepts articles from ASCII files and imports them into a database, creating hyper-links between articles which refer to each other. Articles can be retrieved from the database depending on various features and tags, allowing the production of various versions of an encyclopaedia.

The Syriac Hyper-text project was launched by the Syriac Computing Institute in 1993. It aims at compiling encyclopaedia-type works on Syriac studies. This paper presents the computer software tools developed for the project. Section 1 presents the system architecture. Section 2 gives the database schema. Section 3 discusses the various modules which make up the system. Finally, section 4 gives concluding remarks.
